Frustrating conditions for Bosham Sailing Club Regatta
170 boats, from 18 classes, entered Bosham Sailing Club’s annual regatta last weekend. The conditions for the competitors were challenging with light winds and one of the biggest tides of the year, but none the less there was a good turn out on the starting line, many anticipating that a sea breeze will fill in.
The courses set for each class combined with the conditions meant that crews had to use their local knowledge of the harbour to secure advantage over their competitors, and whilst frustration beset some crews, others could take pride in their decisions to work one shore or the other to minimise the effect of the strong tide.
Unfortunately, the sea breeze never arrived and some competitors exceeded the time limit of their race and others retired having lost patience.
However, all returned smiling having enjoyed the fabulously hot sunny weather agreeing that there was no better place to be than on the water in Chichester Harbour.
