On 24-25 July the Royal Southern Yacht Club hosted the first of two summer weekends of racing for the Farr 45 class in the central Solent. Six out of seven races saw very tight racing and close results, and only race 5 in light conditions with quite a brisk tide offered major tactical decisions and a spread of boats across the course and a rapid reversal of fortunes for the overnight leader Atomic.

In the end, consistency paid as it so often does, and Simon Henning with Alice II won the regatta by two points over Tony Langley and Atomic, with Niklas Zennstrom’s Ran just one further point away in 3rd and only beating Jerry Otter’s Werewolf on tie-break.

The next Farr 45 regatta at the Royal Southern is in 3 weeks’ time on 14-15 August.
