Solo Open at Fishers Green Sailing Club

by John Strange 14 May 2012 21:28 BST 13 May 2012

25 helms gathered for the Fishers Green SC Solo Open on 13th May. The weather conditions were a sunny F2-3 from a shifty SSW increasing to F 3-4. Great planing reaches were there for all to enjoy and the two beats gave tactical and sometimes lucky advantage.

Race 1 of 3 got of to a brisk start. All helms were holding well back from the start line. Paul Rayson and Mark Maskell led the way to the finish with Roger Castle in 3rd spot. Godfrey Clark decided to join these two for the subsequent races, all three showing dazzling pace dualing with each other with the lead swapping several times. Each time Paul eventually found the advantage that won him all three races.

Meanwhile Mo Allen (borrowing Steve Conroy's boat) was out-performing many a seasoned Solo helm except for James Mead who managed 4th overall.

Our 1st 70 plus helm was John Salmon from Marconi SC and Claire Clark was our only lady and deserves a mention.

Overall Results:

1st Paul Rayson (FGSC)
2nd Mark Maskell (Blackwater SC)
3rd Godfrey Clark (FGSC)
