Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Sailing Club Beach Regatta

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston SC held their annual Beach Regatta over the weekend. With winds gusting nearly 40 knots on Saturday racing was cancelled. Sunday however, delivered near perfect conditions with sunshine and a steady SE'erly F3.

There was a good mixture of entries with single-handers, asymmetrics and catmarans. The race team did a splendid job providing excellent start lines and courses and races were turned round quickly with little delay allowing 4 races back to back. The battle of the single handers was close between Nick Favell and Laurence Milton, both sailing Phantoms who enjoying some nip and tuck racing racing throughout the day. Nick secured a fifth in the final race to finish top single-hander securing eighth place overall.

After two races Steve Shaw and Ed Anderson sailing a Hobie Tiger looked to be well ahead of the other cats securing two third places. However Dave Abbott and Tom Quayle also in a Hobie Tiger closed the gap finishing just one point behind. Steve and Ed finishing fourth overall with Dave and Tom in fifth.

Chris Sallis and Jamie Freeman in a RS800 were in dominate form securing the overall title winning the first three races. Martin Brown and Di Slatter in a RS400 secured second overall with a win in the final race. Richard Fryer and Carol Smalls in another RS400 put in a consistent set of results to finish third overall.
