Towergate Insurance Formula 18 Nationals at Minnis Bay Sailing Club Preview

by UK F18 Association 25 Aug 2012 10:19 BST 31 August - 2 September 2012

The Towergate Insurance UK Formula 18 Nationals are due to take place at Minnis Bay Sailing Club over 3 days from Friday 31st August – 2nd September 2012. The event is also being supported by Spinlock and Gul Watersports.

As always, a high quality list of entrants is expected for the UK and International premier catamaran class, competing for the title of National champion; previous holders of the title include Hugh Styles and Rob Wilson.

Among the favourites for this year's title must be Grant Piggot, Simon Northrop and David White – all showing good pace during the present season. With some mixed crews competing (possibly with an eye on future Olympic contention) the class continues to be the bench mark for the standard of catamaran racing in the UK and abroad.

There are several designs/manufacturers available, each with there own strengths but with very little between them, combining for the closet racing available.

The class is internationally competitive but continues to maintain a good balance between competition and accessibility. Minnis Bay Sailing Club will no doubt be the ideal hosts, as they always are, with visitors already being welcomed for some training hours prior to the event.

The event also forms part of the newly created www.f18europeantour.com

Results will be published during the event at www.minnisbaysailingclub.co.uk and more information on the class can be found at www.f18.org.uk
