Paignton PODD Regatta at Paignton Sailing Club - Preview

by Liz Rayner 30 Apr 2013 23:14 BST 29-30 June 2013

Paignton Sailing Club wanted to create an iconic sailing event, that everyone would be talking about and saying "hey are you going to this". This is how PODD came about, as well as our POSH event (single-hander racing on 11-12th May).

In the South West area there didn't seem to be a single event just for Double-handed Dinghies. So it was decided that the existing Autumn Regatta, where dinghies from Torbay would come together and race in one central location, would have a makeover and become a double-handed dinghy event. Hence the acronym PODD meaning Paignton Open for Double-handed Dinghies.

The regatta will take place over two days, on 29-30 June 2013, with three races scheduled each day. Let's hope the weather is kind to us! More chance of better weather than in the Winter...

There is an early entry fee, if paid before a certain date, see Notice of Race for more details. After racing has finished for the day the club bar will be open, perfect time to catch up on the days racing and check out the results.

Boats that have joined PODD previously include Albacores, Fireballs, Comet Duos, but any two-man dinghy is welcome.

It is possible to launch at any tide state into the sheltered yet challenging waters of Torbay. There is easy access to the Club with free parking within a few minutes of the Club. Paignton Sailing Club are renowned for hosting several large regattas including Laser World Qualifiers, Topper events, Scorpions Nationals to name but a few.

We have had to cap entries to 120 boats in fear of having too many boats arrive! A pre-entry system will soon be online. You can even enquire about available accomodation with club members. So if you have a double-handed dinghy and fancy taking part in this prestigious event then email us at or visit www.paigntonsailingclub.com
