The Yeoman and Kinsman National Championships were hosted by Horning Sailing Club over the weekend of 22/23rd June 2013 on Hoveton Little Broad in challenging conditions, with winds gusting up to 40mph during both days.

Attracting six visitors, from as far as afield as Rutland and Erith in Kent, in addition to nine boats from the home Club, the weather proved demanding, with five boats retiring prior to the start on Saturday afternoon. Gordon Jewell sailing Charlie Brown (HSC) was the only competitor to opt for a port start, clearing the entire fleet to take the lead, although was eventually overtaken by Guy Coleman and Carl Brady sailing Nimrod (NBYC) who won both races by one leg of the course, and following two more wins on the second day took the Moores Trophy and J & N Trophy respectively for first helm and crew.

With the winds forecast to be lighter for Sunday's sailing, competitors were looking forward to a more gentle day's racing, however winds quickly picked up to be stronger than the previous day!

With the boats (and crews) being tested to the limits, and sailing being described as akin to survival, twelve boats made it to the line, although various gear failures and breakages (spread evenly across the competitors!) resulted in a depleted fleet of six by the final race of the day, although this perhaps was the closest racing of the weekend.

Second overall with three seconds and two thirds were Q Stewart and Tony Laughton sailing Maybe 2 (HSC) taking the Chairman's Trophy and the Alan Wheatley Trophy for first non-spinnaker boat. Third, and taking the Scott Salver were Steve and Tim Haines sailing Yggdrisil with two seconds, a third and fourth. Just behind in fourth place was Paul Clarke sailing Two C' Sons after winning the final race, with Gordon Jewell fifth. First Kinsman, and sixth overall, receiving the Kinsman Trophy was John Vickers sailing Belinda.
