What a summer we have had!
Sunny skies, and good winds. Making everybody happy especially Seldén Mast who have had an excellent summer, with excellent results across a range of dinghy classes.
Our biggest win this year has came from our double victory at the 420 Worlds held in Valencia Spain, both the Open fleet and the Girls fleet used Cumulus and Kappa sections to secure victory, Our newest 420 section Zeta also had success in the Open fleet.
The 505 had a 90 boat Europeans in Medemblik, the regatta was won by brothers Jorgen and Jacob Bojsen-Moller. The brothers in arms were using an Alto mast. They had a poor worlds by their own standards in Barbados and finished in 11th place. Seldén did have results to show at this regatta, with results in the top ten using, Alto and Epsilon masts. The Bosjen-Moller brothers also using our latest Series 2 High Modulus Carbon Flying Dutchman mast were 3rd at the Worlds in Hungary.
Compared to the beast that is the FD the Cadet is small dinghy but a highly competitive fleet, Team Seldén sailor Arran Holman sailing with Lucie Offord sailed a consistent series to claim 2nd place, Arran has been another busy boy, he and Lucie also were 1st at the Cadet UK Nationals and 5th at the Mirror Nationals, one to watch for the future!
One of the biggest and most hotly contested Nationals of the year has to have been the Solo held at Hayling Island Sailing Club. 114 Solos battled for a week in a mixture of conditions, Seldén had a brilliant attendance with the top 10 all using Selden Spars. D+ was the weapon of choice, but other sections are available, Team Seldéns latest recruit Charlie Cumbley came out on top with other Team Seldén sailors filling the top 10.
We have had success in other UK traditional classes, Albacore, Enterprise and GP14s to name a few, if you want more speed please contact one of our many dealers who will be able to help you choose the right Seldén section for your boat.
One of the smallest spars we make is the Optimist, it may be the simplest of rigs but custom design fittings and an attention to detail not seen in the Optimist class before. Team Seldén sailor Robbie King was in 2nd place, Robbie is now moving to the 420, good luck to him in his new boat.
In the 470 fleet Luke Patience and new crew, Joe Glanfield have been using Cumulus as there weapon of choice this summer. The new pairing have had a string of excellent results in there build up to Rio 2016.
What must be one of the hardest fleets to sail in, with a results sheet that reads like the who’s, who of UK dinghy sailing must be the Merlin Rocket Nationals. Nick Craig and Alan Roberts came out on top using a Series 2 Stiff Merlin Mast, a mixture of Stiff, Medium and Soft masts also were used throughout the fleet. The fleet looks forward to a big 2014 with many new masts now on order.
Meanwhile we don’t only make Dinghy masts; our Yacht product has been winning many races with Carbon and Aluminium sections in IRC racing and club PY.
