Notts County Sailing Club Spring Regatta

The Notts County Sailing Club Spring Regatta attracted record entries with well over eighty craft taking part in the three day event consisting of class races & Commodore’s Cup (handicap) and socials. Competitors came from as far away as Conwy, Hampshire & Essex.

Saturday started with force 7 gusts, which the windsurfers enjoyed, causing racing to be delayed, the wind moderated to force 6 and in the race only a few finished and three quarters of the fleet capsized, in the exhilarating conditions.

There was light winds for the next two days and a second class race took place on Sunday with the final one on Monday in slightly more wind, John Sears & Lindsay Ogden won the RS 400, William Twemlow & Oliver Hatton the 405, the scorpions were won by John & Joyce Henderson, the Menagerie by Paul & Sharon Plested in their RS200, Jonathan Lye the lasers, Bob & Debbie Tuckwood the enterprise, Tom Fosket & Tim Needham the Fireballs and Alistair Grey the Toppers.

The Commodore’s Cup had two races back to back on Sunday and a race on Monday the large slow handicap fleet had forty boats on the line. Paul & Sharon Plested from Winsford Flash won in their RS200, followed by John & Karen Marshall & Tom & Nadina Jeffcoate third. The Fast Handicap saw John Sears & Lindsay Ogden win with two firsts, second was all to play for with Jim & Peter Baldwin in another RS400, and Andy Fosket in a Fireball, Andy beat Jim. Meanwhile Alistair Grey was beaten to his second junior title by Nichola Ogden in a Laser Radial.

Silver Scorpion Travellers Series Saturday dawned at Notts County Sailing Club for the start of the Scorpion Open, part of the Silver Scorpion Travellers Series.
