The Streaker season kicked off with a great weekend at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show - masses of interest in the class and orders placed for new boats with both licensed builders, Butler Boats and Rooster Sailing. The wooden Butler boat sporting the mainsheet track and traveller was the centre of much attention for Streaker owners as the membership will have the chance to vote on this option later in the year.
Now attention turns to the open meetings and the good news is that Pinnell & Bax and Sail Register have agreed to continue sponsorship of the Southern and Northern Paddle Series. These travellers series start on 22nd March at Tamworth SC, which counts for both, and then the events come thick and fast. In total there will be 13 open s in the Southern Paddle and 16 in the Northern.
On top of that there will be the Inlands at Draycote (April 26-27), the Scottish Nationals at East Lothian (June 7-8) and the National Championships at Carsington (June 21-22).
Of course a lot of Streaker sailing goes on at club level, often in handicap fleets, and so the news that the Streaker PY number has been lowered to 1146 was much discussed at the Dinghy Show, especially as it means that Streakers and Solos can now race level.
An interesting year is assured!
