The North-West's premier offshore dinghy and catamaran race - Sunday 10th August 2014
The race has several unusual features, apart from the wonderful scenery, and the Welsh Language. It is a passage race, with start and finish in different locations. The start is on the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club line, by Beaumaris Castle launching from the Green and then follows the tidal and sand banked Menai Straight.
You then pass through Puffin Sound between Puffin Island and Anglesey with the next section running parallel to high cliffs, before passing the first mark (the Quarry) and heading for Benllech across the open waters of Red Wharf Bay. After Benllech mark the course again runs parallel to cliffs, before passing offshore of the clubhouse of the host club at Traeth Bychan.
A final turning mark off Moelfre Life Boat station leads the competitors back to the finishing line at the club, with a sandy beach for landing and recovery. The race distance for mono hulls is 15 miles, and the multi hulls get another lap to take their course back to Quarry, Benllech, and Moelfre totalling 30 miles.
The 2013 monohull winner was David Clark from Shotwick Lake SC sailing a Laser Radial, and for the multihull fleet, a Nacra Carbon 20 from Bala Cat Club sailed by David Park/John Cotgreave.
