Comet Trio National Championship at Exe Sailing Club

by Guy Farrant 24 Aug 2014 21:50 BST 22-24 August 2014

The Comet Trio National Championship held at Exe Sailing Club attracted 22 entries. The excellent race management ran 7 races over 3 days in conditions ranging from near calm to a good 16 kts, something for everyone.

Keenly contested starts lead to several general recalls and out came the black flag. The first 2 days saw big shifts in the fresh NW wind with the passing shower clouds and previous champion helms Andrew McAusland and Iain Horlock soon showed their prowess. Mid-fleet there were lots of place changes, a few infringements and a couple of capsizes.

For the last day the wind swung around to a gentle SW sea breeze which then slowly built. The lightweights took their chance and third place was decided by the last race.

A very enjoyable championship.
