Sailmaker Andy Davis of HD Sails has been racing a Merlin Rocket for over 10 years. Andy has won every major Championship in the Merlin along with other National titles in the Solo, Scorpion, Snipe and GP14 Class.

For 2015 Andy will be trialling the new Selden S1 High Modulus Mast. We asked Andy for his view on why he has chosen to try the new mast:

"Here at HD Sails we are always looking at areas to improve performance. A more efficient mast gives us a better platform to design and build a faster sail.

"Selden's investment in technology has allowed them to produce a mast which we believe will be a step to improving boat speed.

"Having been asked by Selden, the leading spar manufacturer for the UK, for my thoughts I'm looking forward to using the mast as I know they will produce a premier product.

"The section is a lot smaller which will certainly aid in making a faster rig. The smaller section will give less drag and better flow across the mainsail which will increase speed."

Andy will be attending all the major Merlin Championships as well as various open meetings, we look forward to seeing how he gets on and hearing his views.

For your opportunity to submit the winning bid for a brand new Selden High-Modulus Carbon Fibre mast please visit www.merlinrocket.co.uk

The winning bid will be announced Sunday 1st March at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show.
