Expandable chartplotter brings easy electronic navigation to all sailors
B&G, the world's leading sailing navigation and instrument specialist, is pleased to introduce the new Vulcan chartplotter. Packed full of B&G's dedicated sailing features and easy to use, Vulcan has been designed as the perfect companion for cruising and racing yachts of all sizes.
Vulcan is a truly expandable 7-inch multi-touch sailing chartplotter, which is just as at home when used as a standalone unit on a 24ft cruising yacht, as it is as part of an integrated system on a larger yacht.
In its basic form as a standalone sailing chartplotter, Vulcan offers all of the standard navigation features sailors expect from B&G including waypoints, routes, a choice of cartography providers, integrated autopilot control and more.
Vulcan's unique innovation shows is when it is integrated with instruments or sensors, like Wind and Boat Speed. By simply adding a Wind transducer, sailors gain access to B&G's award winning SailSteer feature, and by integrating with further sensors, sailors can unlock a whole host of other sailing features including True Wind and tide, making Vulcan a fantastic central navigation display for sailors.
Vulcan's offerings are fully scalable and sailors can choose to take advantage of as many or as few sailing navigation features as they require. All data is shown relative to the boat — so it's quick and easy to relate onscreen navigation to the realities of sailing.
Vulcan also excels on larger sailing boats, providing the perfect solution for a secondary display. Its flexible design allows it to be used in many locations including as a cockpit repeater, as additional support at the chart table, to provide navigation information in the owner's cabin or even as a mast display. Vulcan is an easy addition to existing NMEA 2000® networks and enhances any large-scale navigation system.
When paired with a DownScan transducer, Vulcan offers sailors a unique perspective on what's beneath the boat, thanks to Cruise Sonar – a picture-like representation of bottom structure. This technology aids the identification of anchoring or swimming spots and can also be used to identify areas that contain fish, for sailors who want to catch a meal!
Vulcan has a multi-touch screen and intuitive menus, so sailors can pinch-to-zoom and quickly swipe their way through options for fast and easy navigation. Compatible with GoFree wireless technology, thanks to built in Wi-Fi, sailors can control and view charts and many other features of Vulcan via a tablet—wherever they are on board. Navigators can even view data on a Smartphone and carry a chartplotter in their pocket! GoFree technology also allows for the download of software updates and purchasing of charts and apps via the GoFree Store when an Internet hotspot is enabled.
Leif Ottosson, CEO of Navico, parent company to B&G said: "Good things come in small packages, and we're proud to welcome Vulcan to the B&G sailing-specific family of chartplotters.
"From its internal high speed GPS to SailSteer and WindPlot, every part of Vulcan has been designed to meet the unique needs of sailors, no matter the size of their boat. Vulcan provides longevity, as it can grow with a navigator's need, thanks to being easily expandable."
7-inch Vulcan chartplotters will be available from Spring 2015, and will start from $899 (SRP)/ €899 / £707. To find out more about the B&G passion for sailing and the award-winning range of sailing electronics and navigational products, visit www.bandg.com.
