On the 6th September Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club held their Windward Leeward Open event.

A decent entry of 29 boats were greeted by sun and 10 mph wind for the first race. It was great to see Feva', Lasers, Skiffs, RSs and many more racing together on the simple up/down course.

Race 1 saw the RS800 of Martin Boatman and Andy Brown storm off into a massive lead lapping nearly everyone else. The non-asymmetric boats held their own filling the next 3 places Graham Tinsley (Laser), Dave Walker (Finn), Bill Pickup (Laser).

Race two after lunch and the wind had increased, which made little difference to the 800 who took their second win. The increased breeze suited the 29er of Ian Escritt and Kate Mellor who took 2nd Graham 3rd and Dave Baxter (Vago) 4th.

During race 3 the wind started to take its toll on the hiking boats with again 800, 29er, and Ian Smith and Natasha Baxter (RS500) taking the first three slots. Richard Clayton (PRO) set a shorter course for the final race again Martin and Andy took the win followed by Ian and Kate, Graham and the Feva, sailed by Henry and Jamie Raistick.

Overall, a fantastic day sailing, everyone leaving with a smile.
