Demonstrating the Sigma 38 'Spirit'

Sigma 38s honoured on both sides of the Atlantic

Having just won the Spirit Trophy for crossing the Atlantic single-handed non-stop from Hamble to Antigua Peter Hopps co-owner of Sam of Hamble has just picked up another prize for coming second in Grenada Sailing Week. The Spirit Trophy is awarded by the Sigma 38 Class Association for noteworthy Sigma 38 achievements outside the Solent area. Peter's intrepid voyage, which took 32 days and he approached as coolly as most of us cross the street, more than qualified.

The Spirit Trophy was one of a myriad of trophies and prizes presented at the Sigma 38 Annual Party and Prize Giving in recognition of sailing successes over the year. Ten different boats were rewarded with silverware and hand engraved glassware. Due to his intense sailing schedule in the Caribbean Peter's award was collected by the co-owners of Sam of Hamble.

The evening culminated in the crowning of the spirited team Persephone owned by the Goodhew family as the 2015 Sigma 38 Grand Champions. Wins in the National Championships, the Winter Series, the Offshore Championship and their unbelievable comeback win in the Fastnet, as well as strong results in every event they entered secured the championship.
