XOD Wednesday Series at Royal Lymington Yacht Club - Race 14

by James McGill 1 Aug 2016 17:47 BST 27 July 2016

On a warm sunny day with average 15 knots South West wind speed, and a initially moderate Solent chop on a flood tide, excellent sailing was had by the fleet of 14 boats on a challenging course set by the race officers.

Rory Paton's boat X48 helmed by Eric Williams had a good start and led throughout. He was closely followed by Robin Balme's X117. But Stuart Jardine from a moderate start worked his way up the fleet, and as the sea became rougher, was able on the final beat to overtake X117, who with only 2 up and so lighter was not able to compete with X119, who were 3 up and able to go through such rougher seas quicker to finish second. These three were well ahead of 4th finisher James McGill's X53, who finished just ahead of Barry Dunning's X176.

After a great race, the fleet enjoyed a well-deserved tea and cakes in the club house.
