Sagamore Yacht Club, in picturesque Oyster Bay, New York will be joining the third annual Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta as the dockside host. Sagamore Yacht Club, established in 1944, will be providing the Clagett/Oakcliff sailors with dock space to secure the hoyer lift, moorings, launch service and space in the club for the onshore classroom coaching sessions. The WaterFront Center will continue to supply the Sonars the competitors sail and other valuable support.

Clagett President and Co-Founder, Judy Clagett McLennan commented, "We're looking forward to working with the Sagamore Yacht Club this year as the host of the sailors of the third Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta. Their offer to provide the sailors this year with dock space, moorings and classroom space has been gratefully accepted. We will be seeing a fantastic group of sailors during the clinic and regatta this year and hope they take a multitude of skills away with them."

Conny Barris, Commodore of the Sagamore Yacht Club, said, "When we heard about what a wonderful event this is and the need for water access Sagamore Yacht Club gathered the Board to see how we could support the regatta. We have had a very close relationship with Oakcliff Sailing and The WaterFront Center and this is another example of the Oyster Bay sailing organizations working together."

This year the Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta will be held September 28-30 and the line up of teams has been quickly filled by sailors eager to learn from Dave Perry and David Dellenbaugh, two of the best match racing coaches in the country.

Over the many years of their racing careers these two have earned a reputation second to none when it comes to match racing. The sailors who will be in Oyster Bay come the end of September will have an opportunity to absorb as much information as they can while working with this team through coaching, video debriefs, one on one instruction and group debriefs.

The skippers and crew who will be racing at the 2018 Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta are:

  • Rick Doerr / Charles McClure / Walter Maguire
  • Jen French / Mike Hersey / Tim French
  • Pauline Dowell / Christian Thaxton / Kay VanValkenburgh
  • Sarah Everhart Skeels/Brenda Hopkins/Brian Skeels
  • Charlie Rosenfield / Tim Ripley / Stuart Chaplain
  • Dave Whalen / Spencer Raggio / Dan Kennedy
  • Dennis Moran / Greg Murphy / Danny Moreno
  • Kevin Holmberg /Luke Lawrence / Noah Barrengos
This year will be the second year that Rio Paralympic silver medalist Rick Doerr will be racing. Due to time constraints at work, Doerr has decided that he will race at the Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta and won't be at the Para World Sailing Championships.

Sailors who will be at the Para World Sailing Championships as well as Clagett/Oakcliff are Kevin Holmberg, Tim Ripley and Charlie Rosenfield, who will all be racing in the single handed 2.4mR class.

Scholarships to assist sailors with travel costs to attend the clinic and regatta are available and applications can be made by contacting The Clagett at www.clagettregatta.org/mrscholarship
