It was an Australian one-two at the Mark Foy European Championship: Lazarus Capital Partners and The Rag & Famish Hotel in the first two overall positions. The best Europeans were the Germans on Black Knight, down to third place overall.
The regatta came to an end with 12 races in total, several scuffles, but a lot of spectacle. For the entire week the conditions on Garda Trentino were challenging, so much so that from the second day onwards the Race Committee brought forward the start so that the wind would not rise too much, as it did on the first day, when the boats were decimated, amidst capsizes and technical breakdowns.
Certainly those who never had any problem taming their skiff were the Australian crew of Lazarus Capital Partners, in the lead from day one and the best prepared to hold their boat in all wind and wave conditions.
For the others, it was a question of who made the least mistakes: it is no coincidence that the gap between first and second was 10 points and in the partial results of Lazarus, with Marcos Ashley Jones, Philipé Marshallio and Angusto Williams on board, there were no retirements and the worst result was a fourth, discarded together with a third.
There was a twist in the rest of the overall podium when the other Australians of The Rag & Famish Hotel overtook the Germans of Black Knight, who compromised their second place overall, which they had held until the penultimate day, with their last race result (and a capsize). Despite finishing third overall they still took the European victory, followed by Peroni's compatriots.
Third place in Europe went to the British team of Black Dog, who were also held back by one position overall for a final race they did not take part in due to technical problems caused by a scuffle.
