The third day of racing in the 2024 ILCA 6 Women's World Championship was derailed again by unfortunate weather conditions in Mar del Plata.
The event, organized by the Yacht Club Argentino and the International Laser Class Association, unfolded today with a very gentle wind coming from the SE and rotating to the E at about 8 knots. The storm approaching on the horizon in the afternoon allowed for only one race.
In the sole race of the day, the Dutch sailor Marit Bouwmeester, a four-time world champion and former Olympic champion, showcased her skills by winning the race with a significant lead from the start.
In the overall standings, the top two positions have not changed from the previous day: the Danish and current Olympic champion, Anne Marie Rindom, remains in the lead despite the light breeze. Sweden's Josefin Olsson continues in second place, and German sailor Julia Buesselberg climbed to third place, with Maxime Jonker of the Netherlands following closely in fourth after a race discard.
Today's race concludes the qualifying stage, and tomorrow the fleet will be divided into gold and silver.
