505 European Championships at Sopot, Poland - Overall

by 505 Class Association 2 Sep 2007 09:03 BST 28 August - 1 September 2007

A Danish masterclass rounds off the event

Going into the final day Jorgen Bojsen-Moller & Jacob Bojsen-Moller held a small advantage over fellow countrymen and current World Champions Jan Saugman & Morten Ramsbeck.

The morning at Sopot was sunny and the final race was held in North Westerly, 6-14 knots. The Bojsen-Moller's demonstrated their mastery of the trying conditions with a further race win, this time from Meike Schomaker & Rainer Gorge (GER) with Saugman/Ramsbeck back in third.

This meant the top two positions overall were unchanged; Jorgen Bojsen-Moller & Jacob Bojsen-Moller are the new 505 European Champions with Jan Saugman & Morten Ramsbeck runners up. Meike Schomaker's & Rainer Gorge's excellent performance in the last race lifted them to third place overall, a great result for the leading lady helm in the fleet.

The leading Danish teams had consistently demonstrated their mastery of the trying conditions throughout the week, and they were the only two boats not to score a result outside of the top ten.

Third placed after yesterday's racing, Boris Herrmann & Julien Kleiner suffered a late disqualification from their 6th place in yesterday's second race, and placed 8th in today's race which dropped them to 5th overall. Wolfgang Hunger & Holger Jess finished behind them today, but held onto 4th overall.
