Youth Cat Introduction at Herne Bay this weekend

by Bob Carter 18 Oct 2007 08:29 BST 20 October 2007

There will be a day session at Herne Bay Sailing Club on Saturday 20 October to introduce young sailors to Catamaran sailing and racing and to act as a stepping stone to the Junior / Youth Catamaran Squads. It will be hosted by the British Hobie Cat Class Association in conjunction with Herne Bay Sailing Club and has the support and recognition of the RYA.

The Intro Day training will be carried out on boats kindly supplied by the following:

  • Topaz CX16 supplied by Topper.
  • Dragoons and Hobie 16s supplied by Hobie UK.

Coaching will be lead by RYA Cat Coach Nick Taylor and will include a variety of on and off the water catamaran skills. Safety boat cover will be available on the water at all times.

Sailors should be 11–17 years and competent RYA level 2 in dinghy or windsurfing with some club racing experience. It is an advantage to come to the Intro Day with a sailing partner, but we do not discourage individuals and do our best to match them up during the day. Participants must bring a packed lunch and their own sailing equipment.

Parents are welcome to stay for the day and see the action.

There will be a charge of £15 per sailor for the day.

The location is Herne Bay Sailing Club on Saturday 20th October 2007, starting 10:00.
