To clarify the conditions of entry for the Rutland Challenge for the John Merricks Tiger Trophy 2008 (www.tiger-trophy.com) to be held at Rutland Sailing Club on February 2nd and 3rd, the Notice of Race has been amended to specifically address the issue of centerboard classes that are not listed in the RYA's Portsmouth Yardstick web listing 2007.
The underlying principle of the regatta, held to raise money for the John Merricks Sailing Trust, is to be as inclusive as possible within the constraints of safety. It is run to emphasise the fun of sailing as a self policing activity so, within the normally large mixed fleet, a sense of compromise is encouraged, allowing the 18ft Skiff to associate with the Laser Radial and every centerboard class in between.
The race committee has taken soundings and has published the handicaps of the leading non-listed boats with any other classes being given a handicap on the day.
They are: Thames A Rater PY 875, 18ft Skiff PY 685, Foiling Moth PY 800, Foiling International 14 PY 775, Foiling RS 600 PY 800, Cherub PY 920, 59er PY 904, 29erXX PY 850. Any other centreboard dinghy not listed will be permitted to enter and granted a temporary PY by the Race Committee on the day of race.
Online entries are extremely encouraging from fleets as diverse as the Thames A Rater to the B14. The Tiger Dinner held for the first time at RSC on the Saturday evening of the 2nd is heading for its normal sell out position, and the expectation is for the weather to deliver 12 to 15 knots of wind.
