11 crews contested the second round of the Blue Jib series at Weir Wood SC on 19th July which was held in very challenging conditions, with the wind rising to 35 mph during the afternoon races.

Nigel and Ian Bird retired from the first race so that Nigel could take on extra ballast in the form of wife Andy. The two morning races were won by David and Maggie Beaney from Martin Brooking and Jane Anderson in 2nd place. Lower down the fleet, many crews found themselves swimming, some several times.

Only 5 boats braved the conditions for the two afternoon races. Both were won by Nigel and Andy Bird, who were followed home by the Beaneys and Brooking/Anderson in the 3rd race. At this point, the Beaneys had won the event and sailed in for tea, while Brooking/Anderson battled with Nick Bush and Harry Burry (sailing in his first dinghy event!), taking 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Overall Results:

1st David & Maggie Beaney (Castaways SC) 4pts
2nd Martin Brooking & Jane Anderson (Bewl Valley SC) 6pts
3rd Nick Bush & Harry Burry (Weir Wood SC) 10pts
4th Nigel & Andy Bird (Papercourt SC) 14pts
5th Dick & Jo Lankester (Weir Wood SC) 14pts
