International 14 POW Week at Restronguet Sailing Club Day 1

Near perfect conditions greeted the forty International 14s lined up on the startline for the first race of the 77th POW, hosted by Restronguet Sailing Club. The 12 – 15 knot breeze, flat water and sunshine provided sparkling sailing conditions. Leading the fleet round the first mark, Roger Gilbert and Ben McGrane in their new Ovington, closely followed by Tom Hayward and Ed Clay in their 6 Bieker 4. The six round race saw close very close racing between the leading 7 boats with plenty of place changing, the only exception being Roger and Ben who led consistently throughout.

3rd Tom Heywood
4th Andy Partington
5th Alistair Richardson

Around the race course Rollo Pyper showed superb speed rounding the first mark third and finally finishing just inside the top 10. Martin and Neale Jones were seen in battle with their old advocacies Andy and Tom Partington until their pole outhaul gave way on the third lap. Rob Greenhaugh and Simon Marks retired with a broken spreader. Paul Ravenhill and Doug Warker showed excellent speed in their new Ovington also finishing in the top 10.
