12-16 July 2010
Race 3 started in a fresh 15 knots sousou west with the majority of the fleet electing to start and hang onto Starboard tack. GBR787 broke a carbon wing shortly after the start and returned to the shore. A small break away group took the right hand side from the start and proved to have correctly chosen to chase a rain cloud. The leading 3 at the first mark were Aus 778, Aus 370 and Aus779. The downwind saw little change but the next upwind saw the main pack catching some of the leading boats. At the next windward mark GBR777, GBR 773 and GBR772 were closing in the leaders. Aus778 and Aus 370 still led at the bottom mark for the seconf time. The next work saw the closing pack moving closer and a slight course change with the windward marks being moved more westerly. The wind prssure started to die and became patchy down. The leaders at the last windward mark were Aus 778, Aus370 and Aus 374, having made up much ground. The last downwind saw the wind continue to die and become patchy, the chsing bunch chose to go mainly left , with the leaders taking the middle line. GBR 775 chose the right hand line and improved to take a 3rd from Aus374. Aus 778 won, with Aus370 second and GBR775 3rd.
Race 4 started after a long wait under Ap as the wind moved further west, dropped in intensity and then moved back to a similar direction to race 1. First rounding sasw GBR 785 first, GBR 763 second and GBR 773 thrid. The fleet separated taking both left and right sides with no chnges at the bottom mark. The next work saw Aus778 making ground through the fleet. The Next windward mark saw GBR785 in the lead, GBR 763 followed GBR773 third. The next work saw several moves : 778 moved into second and Aus 373 making up ground into third place. The wind continued to deteriorate and become patchy. Making way on starboard tack was becoming difficult with lumpy seas remaining from the earlier fresh breeze. The last run saw most of the action of the day with the leaders changing place near the finish line with Aus 778 overtaking GBR 785 in the final metres. Aus 373 took 3rd for the day with a close and loud group closing in at the finish. Aus 778 won, GBR 785 second and Aus 373 third.
The overall leaders after day 2 are Aus 778, GBR 785 and Aus 373.
