10-11 September 2011
The 45th 24 Hour Race will be sailed on the weekend of 10th/11th September 2011 - this being a change and one week earlier than the previously advertised date.
The 24 Hour Race is the premier dinghy endurance race in the UK, offering a 48 hour social event (from Friday through to Sunday), as well as the 24 Hours of Racing.
Teams sail for 24 hours on a triangular course around the Southport Marine Lake. Changes of helm and crew are allowed, but ony in a specially dedicated "Docking Area", where outside assistance and repairs are also permitted. The competing teams are timed on every lap and, after taking account of penalties, interim results are published on the event website and also on the club's computer screens and notice board.
Southport Marine Lake is ideal for this race as the two islands provide a natural separation between boats on different legs of the course and the depth is such that there is plenty of water for boats to sail but also allows most competitors to stand up in the unfortunate case of being separated from the boat in a capsize.
A chandlery will be operated on-site during the race where competitors and spectators can browse through a wide range of products for Enterprise, GP14 and Lark dinghies and other classes as well. West Lancashire Yacht Club are very grateful for the support given to the club by 1st Mark in supporting this unique event.
Entries are accepted in Enterprise, GP14 and Lark dinghies from Clubs and Associations.
Full details of the race, including the Notice of Race and Entry Form are available on the event website.
