The RS Games
One of the biggest dinghy racing events in the UK this year will be the RS Games in August at the Weymouth 2012 Olympic venue, where the Olympic sailing regatta takes place next year.
Over four hundred boats are expected for the RS Games which include the National Championships for most of the RS classes plus the RS500 Worlds. In addition to some of the most competitive racing of the season there will also be a truly epic social programme - OK that's probably not much of a surprise to you... Games nights, bands, DJ's, karaoke... you'll need stamina for this one.
The RS Games follow immediately after the Pre Olympic Regatta and they will give Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy another opportunity to hone their organisation and skills.
So if you own an RS or can beg steal or borrow one, this is a once in a lifetime chance to race at the Olympic venue, with all its facilities in place under some of the countries best race officials. You wouldn't want to miss that opportunity.
Full details will shortly be available at the RS class association website.

RS100 Yachts and Yachting Dinghy of the Year!
Hot on the heels of winning the Sailing World US Boat of the Year award, we can proudly announce that the RS100 has also won the Yachts and Yachting Dinghy of the Year, beating off the challengers from around the dinghy world. This award will be presented on the Saturday afternoon of the Dinghy Show - so please do swing by the RS stand and join us for a glass of our famous Chateau Champagne... Or use it to fuel your car on the way home.
This truly tops off a great launch year for the RS100, which looks set to continue in 2011 with boats selling strongly and multiple European events due to take place this summer. This success is further emphasised by the recent collection of boat number 300, which is off to a happy customer on the Isle of Wight who will be joining the RS100 fleet at Gurnard SC.
International Round-Up
RS continue to spread internationally resulting in our boats going off to some exciting places. Here are a few examples:
- Two RS500s have just been shipped to Uganda (blimey).
- Abu Dhabi YC have recently received four new RS400s.
- Two RS800s and two RS300s will shortly head to the west coast of America.
- The first RS200 heads to Sweden where they hope to start a fleet.
- Yet another RS700 and some more RS100s just left for the Czech Republic.
RS Feva & Tera classes continues to grow
The latest country to join the incredible spread of the Feva Class is Malta - sixteen new boats will soon leave for Portomaso Marina & Cresa Quay, in St Georges Bay. One lucky member of our team is going over to help commission the boats and to deliver some training on Feva sailing techniques and maintenance.
A number of UK clubs and schools are planning to expand their Feva and Tera fleets, with the aims of developing their youth sections and retaining more teenagers who may otherwise drop out of sailing. If your club has similar aims, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me for more info on these programmes and the ways we can help.
