Royal Plymouth Corinthian Yacht Club Winter Series - Day 1

by Jonathan Buckler 8 Jan 2012 07:50 GMT 7 January 2012

Saturday 7th January saw the first two races of the 2012 RPCYC Winter Series sponsored by the Mountbatten Water Sports Centre.

20 dinghies enjoyed two races with a North Westerly force 3 with regular gusts of force 5 enabling the competitors enjoy some exhilarating racing.

The asymmetric fleet saw some close racing with Tom Methven & Rob Lloyd making an excellent start to the series with two first places, ahead of Rod Boswijk's B14 with John McLarens RS400 enjoying close battles with the RS500 sailed by Chris Lloyd.

The conditions suited Chris Hampes International Canoe in the Fast Handicap Fleet which was seen circulating at pace with Elinor Pegg enjoying her first race at RPCYC in her Scorpion dinghy & Dan Ellis in his laser leading the chasing pack of fast handicap dinghies.

The slow handicap fleet saw Angus & Dan Fellows win the first race with James Torr winning the second race in his Laser Radial. Bella Fellows sailed two excellent races in her topper with third place in the first race & second place in the second race.

Full Results can be found here.

With several new competitors from outside of Plymouth & more enquiries coming in, the RPCYC Winter Series promises to be a fantastic start to 2012.

NOR & SI's can be found here with online race entries here.
