Three days down and three more left to go at Crewsaver Abersoch Dinghy Week!
The Week so far has been bathed in sunshine, light and shifty winds lead to a frustrating first day but with the wind building each day the sailing has got better and better.
Crewsaver Abersoch Dinghy Week is one of the biggest dinghy weeks in the UK with 12 fleets of boats racing each day. The morning fleets see the Solos, Laser, Laser Radial, Phantom, Single Handed Mixed and Junior Fleets. In the afternoon fleets include the RS200s, RS400s, Asymmetric, Fireballs, slow and fast mixed dinghies. There is also training available for Optimists and RS Teras in the afternoons.
The largest fleet is the Solo fleet with 42 boats and it's all to play for, with only 2 points in it between the top three sailors. In the Asymmetric fleet 29er sailors Myles Jackson and Gareth Viney are leading the way after winning race 1, race 2 and coming a close 2nd in race 3. In the Phantom fleet Nick Orman lies in 2nd place with 8 points despite winning two out of three races, behind Mike Tustin with 5 points.
Crewsaver sponsored sailors Matt Velamail and Tim Brownell sailing in the slow mixed fleet have got lots to play for currently lying in 4th place one point away from third.
On the shore is not a disappointment; the beach, warm weather and warm seas are providing hours of fun for all of the family. Meanwhile in the evenings the local band 'Elephant Juice' have been keeping the party alive.
"This year's balmy weather has made Abersoch a great place to have a family sailing holiday," quotes Andy Teague, Dinghy Week Organiser.
"We are delighted to be a part of this fantastic family event, where sailors of all levels can have fun on the water and participate in some good competitive racing." quotes Hannah Burywood from Crewsaver, title sponsor for Abersoch Dinghy Week.
With the wind due to increase and the sun still shining the next few days are not to be missed!
