Excitement building ahead of the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show

I can't remember a Dinghy Show that I've been more excited to be going to. The range of boats and kit that I want to see is huge – will two days be enough?

The headliners are without doubt the Devoti D-Zero and RS Aero. The D-Zero, being based on Dan Holman's Punk, is an exciting singlehander that has a number of innovations in its design and the RS Aero comes in at a featherweight 30kg. Both have been anticipated for some time and I'm looking forward to seeing them both in the flesh. I had a brief sail on the Punk at the Forum Open Meeting (FOM) in 2012 and am very much looking forward to sailing both the D-Zero and Aero as soon as possible. Both are pitched firmly at the Laser market and will one (or both) of these become the boat that finally moves Bruce Kirby's 43-year old design on?

It's not just the hiking singlehanders where new (or at last new to the UK) boats are on display. Not strictly dinghies, but just as striking, are Ovington's VX-One and Rondar's Viper 640. Both look like really well sorted Sportsboats which will give the SB20 a run for its money.

We'll have a variety of YachtsandYachting.com videos going live during and after the show, including looks at the latest boats mentioned above and interviews with the people behind the designs and latest kit. We'll also be videoing Harken's Q&A with Nick Craig and the 2014 Concours d'Elegance.

Of course what makes the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show really special is all the class and club stands which are manned by the volunteers who are passionate about our sport. The effort that goes in from each and every one of them is what makes this show work. We should all be extremely grateful to their dedication.

If you're at the show and have an Android phone then search for 'Sailing News' in the Play Store to download the new version of our App and keep up-to-date with the latest news on the move. My apologies if you own an iPhone. The iOS version of our app will be coming soon, but we've got a small technical hurdle to overcome first. In the meantime you can use our www.yandy.co.uk mobile site which also features our new 'Favourites' system where you can choose what news from clubs, classes, events and brands you see.

It's an exciting time for the industry and an exciting time for YachtsandYachting.com. I'm looking forward to chatting with as many readers as I can at the show. It's certainly going to be a busy couple of days!

Feel free to post what you think are the stand-out boats and kit. It'll be great to hear your thoughts below in the Facebook comments.
