The 2006 Mirror European Championships at Poole YC (25-29 July) is set to be the largest gathering of Mirrors in recent years. With still four months to go entries are flooding in, with 62 boats entered at the time of writing. So far there are entries from a far a field as South Africa and New Zealand, with a large number of home boats.
The organising team have put together a fantastic programme both on and off the water, with something to appeal to all the family. The Opening Ceremony will see competitors, dressed in their team uniforms parade through the streets of Poole, accompanied by a marching band.
For supporters and parents, a spectator ship and event radio have been organised, with live commentary of the action to keep everyone involved. Thursday’s Nations Night, will allow competitors to share their cultural experiences with entertainment from around the world.
The Europeans is an open entry event, and the chance for many of our promising young sailors the chance to experience competing at international level for the first time. Competitors can enter online and pay either by credit card or cheque.
The Europeans will be preceded by the UK Nationals (22/23 July), last year again at Poole we saw a large turnout of 91 Mirrors. Again we expect entries to be drawn from all ages, with many parents introducing their children to the delights of top competition. The RYA will be providing top coach support for the Junior National and Zone Squads, so expect a large turnout of some of the country’s up and coming sailors.
