Marine electronics manufacturer, Raymarine has boosted a teenager’s attempt to solo circumnavigate the UK. Eighteen year old Katie Miller will sail in aid of The Ellen MacArthur Trust. Portsmouth-based, Raymarine is sponsoring The Challenge 2006, which launches on 15 April. The company has donated products to ensure Katie can navigate, communicate and have a break now and again while on board.

Raymarine has donated two Ray 101E VHF Radios for Katie and the shore team to use, ensuring they are in constant contact with each other, a RC400 Chartplotter, which is a portable GPS chartplotter, and a ST1000 Tiller Pilot, to allow her a welcome break from the helm.

Katie is really pleased with Raymarine’s involvement and donated products, “It’s great that Raymarine have joined the team. It is a well known fact that their products are high quality and reliable, and it is a privilege to use them.”

Fiona Pankhurst, International Marketing Communications Manager at Raymarine, said, “We are delighted to be able to help Katie on this fantastic attempt and to help The Ellen MacArthur Trust, in continuing its great work. Raymarine is dedicated to helping the sailors of the future and therefore, it is great that we can help Katie, who is an inspirational young sailor.”

Katie aims to raise a minimum of £10,000 for The Ellen MacArthur Trust in The Challenge 2006. The voyage will take approximately three months and will cover about 2,300 miles. Visit www.thechallenge2006.co.uk
