Base 1 Crew:

RD: Rob Dulson – helm
PC: Paul Constable – middle
AM – Alec Mckinlay - bow

Question 1. What are your thoughts on Rooster Clothing?

RD: Good, well thought out, comfortable gear. Generous sizes too for us heavy weather boys!

PC: Very cleverly designed products for dingy sailing, well thought out and well made.

AM: A well thought out system. Light and flexible enough so you forget you’re wearing it, which is what you want. The fleece collars on the Aquafleece tops took a bit of getting used to but after their first outing on a cold spring day we were all fully converted.

Question 2. What is your favourite combination of the layering system?

PC: For skiff sailing we use a simple long john wetsuit and then choose rash vest (Polyamide Lycra Top), Hot Top and/or Aquafleece depending upon weather conditions. The rash vest is typically worn as the outer layer whatever the combination to minimise windage and potential clothing snags.

Question 3. What is your favourite piece of Rooster clothing?

All: The Hot Top.

AM: The Hot Top is warm enough so you can get away with a long john wetsuit in most UK conditions (and can always add an Aquafleece if its cold). Its incredibly light and gives you total freedom of movement in the arms which is excellent for spinnaker work.

Question 4. How do you rate Rooster boots?

AM: Very good boot for high performance sailing. Good grip, holds foot well and doesn’t twist when moving about the boat.

Question 5. What advice would you give to others investing in sailing kit for the new season?

PC: The Rooster layering system is very flexible in coping with a wide range of weather conditions. It is very comfortable and practical.

RD: We’ve been using the layering system since early this year and found the various combinations cope well with all conditions from early spring sailing in UK (10degC) through to hot summer sailing in Italy (high 20’s degC).

Rooster answer back

We're delighted to be supporting the Base 1 18ft skiff boys with rooster clothing, never mind the top event results, you guys win for sheer style!

As an addition to the rooster DS layering system we intend in the future to introduce a brand new trapezing suit, which encompasses real protection with max flexibility. Watch this space!

Enjoy your sailing.
