The Dart 15 Association would like express a big vote of thanks to Bob Rowntree ("Barcelona Bob") for the loan of his boat to use on the Dart 15 stand at the Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace. The boat looked great and we had lots of interest as usual.
Looking around the other catamarans at the show, it is becoming increasingly obvious that they are competing for the same section of the market and leaving the Dart 15 with its own. Other classes continue towards bigger sails, tall masts, asymmetric spinnakers. The Dart 15 offers fun sailing for the family, an active racing circuit both winter and summer, the flexibilty of sailing single handed (and the ability to be easily recovered from a capsize singlehanded), sailing two up or sailing in the exciting sprint mode, the option of car topping or trailing, etc. is the Dart 15.
When son (or daughter) does not want to go sailing, Dad (or Mum) just leaves the jib off and can continue to sail the same boat in the same series at the same handicap. How many classes can offer this?
It is for this reason that the class is still going strong after more than 25 years. Heres to the the next 25.
