by Rolex IMS worlds media 22 May 2004 10:21 BST

With a steady 7-knot breeze from the West, the 66 boats competing in the sixth Rolex IMS World Championship completed the second-to-last day of racing with Italian entry X-Prozac, skippered by Gabriele Benussi, earning a first place, and taking over the overall lead in the non-Corinthian division. Fram XV, from Norway, skippered by Kristoffer Spone, was second today, and U.S. entryTalisman, with Terry Hutchinson as skipper, came in third in the non-Corinthian division. In the Corinthian division, Memo Memulini, the Uruguay entry helmed by Ricardo Fabini, came in first, followed by Cherokee (Italian; Matteo Savelli helmsman) and Tsunami (Italian; Alberto Bolzan helmsman) in second and third place, respectively.

The provisional overall standings at the end of today’s race are: X-Prozac in first place, Talisman in second and Meridiana-Italtel, another Italian entry with Vasco Vascotto at the helm, in third in the non-Corinthian division. In the Corinthian division, Cherokee is in first place overall, Tsunami is in second and Naos (Italian; Pietro Fiammenghi helmsman) in third.

Yesterday, after a late night in the protest room, the jury made the decision to throw out yesterday’s Race #1. The decision to throw out the race altered yesterday’s overall standings and put Talisman (Terry Hutchinson, helmsman) 1st, X-Prozac (Gabrielle Benussi, helmsman), 2nd, and Meridiana-Italtel (Vasco Vascotto, helmsman) 3rd in the non-Corinthian division for yesterday. In the Corinthian division, Cherokee (Matteo Savelli, helmsman) moved up to 1st place coming into today’s race.

The Rolex IMS Worlds are organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with the Yacht Club Capri. Tomorrow is the final day of racing for the Rolex IMS Worlds.
