Evesham Sailing Club provided it’s customary warm welcome (but very little wind) to the British Moth fleet when it was the venue for the first open meeting of the Somerville Trophy series.
Boats from three clubs took part, but it was the Evesham boats of Ian Hayward and David Eales providing the quality, leaving the rest of the fleet trailing in their wake. With the score at one win and one second each after the first two races the third race was a close fought affair with the lead changing hands repeatedly right up to the line when it was Ian who crossed first, but by the narrowest of margins.
The honour of the visitors was upheld by David Taylor from Upton Warren Sailing Club, who sailed solidly to beat John Pickford (Evesham) for third place
