19-20 June 2004
The dinghy weekend of Tay Yacht Clubs Association's annual sailing week, Tay Week , took place over the 19-20 June with thirty six boats taking part. This year it included a SNECA Typhoon Travellers which saw boats coming from all over the country as well as other visiting dinghies.
Two races were sailed back to back on Saturday in dull conditions with a gusty north -north westerly breeze which unfortunately caused some damage in the nasty gusts. Ed Bisset in his brand new Spitfire was one of the casualities, had mast problems which unfortunately forced him to retire from the event.
Race Officer, Ron Lorimer took the Cats to a separate racing area east of Broughty Ferry Castle which gave clearer winds and good sailing in dull conditions. The dinghies under Race Officer Dorothy Ramsay sailed average laps between the Stannergate and Douglas Terrace with quite a few capsizes in the nasty gusts. After a break most of the fleet took part in the non seies, Discovery Centenary Race which sees the boats sail a course between the Tay road and rail Bridges before returning to Broughty Ferry. The first four boats home all Cats., made it in just under an hour but on Handicap the local Fireball, Peter Hay & David Philp took the Dinghy Trophy while Melville Mitchell and David Levison in the Squib took the Keel Trophy.
Sunday saw three shorter races being sailed back to back in a variable breeze.Although conditions overhead had improved the shifty wind caused problems throughout the day but still gave some good racing.
The prizes were presented after racing in the clubhouse by Chris Woolridge of Rossleigh Landrover Cupar.
