Raymarine launches high spec. Class D DSC RAY218E VHF radio

by Raymarine / ADPR 6 Jun 2007 16:26 BST

Raymarine has added to its range of VHF radios with the launch of the RAY218E. This high specification radio is a class D DSC (Digital Selective Calling) transceiver, which transmits a GPS position and digital Mayday when the DSC button is operated.

The RAY218E offers the highest quality reception and transmission, with a number of user-beneficial software features. In addition to clear and easy communication, the RAY218E has NMEA 0183 input, enabling GPS position to 3-decimal precise position, Course over Ground and Speed Over Ground data to be shown on the large dot matrix LCD screen. The NMEA output also means that the RAY218E can display position polling information from radio communications on a chartplotter screen.

With rotary control for channel selection, volume, squelch and menu operation, the RAY218E has softkeys and quick access menus to enable users to move easily between the many features and functions. The RAY218E offers a number of new options for marine radios, including a dual channel display – known as 2UP Mode – which shows the active channel and standby channel simultaneously. A soft key enables users to quickly switch between these channels. In 1UP Mode the soft key can be programmed to a favourite channel, and there is a soft key dedicated to Channel 16 key, or user-chosen alternative channel.

With four types of programmable scanning available and Dual, Tri and Quad watch, the RAY218E offers excellent audio output. The main unit can be operated with the speaker microphone mounted remotely if required, and there is the option of an external speaker. The RAY218E features a powerful 30 watt built-in hailer with ’listen back’ capability. The automatic fog horn comes with pre-programmed fog signals, and there is the option of an additional hailer horn.

For complete flexibility, Raymarine also offers an optional Raymic remote station handset. This is designed to serve as a full function second station, and enables full duplex intercom capabilities between the Ray218E and Raymic handset. Like the RAY218E, the Raymic remote microphone has the same soft keys and quick menu access as the main unit, and a large easy to read LCD display. It is submersible to IPX7 standards making it ideal for external use.

The Raymarine Ray218E is a rugged, waterproof unit, which comes with low profile bezel mounting to match the Raymarine E series multifunction displays. It comes with a two year warranty and is available through Raymarine’s international network of distributors. The Ray218E retails at £349 exc VAT (£410.08 inc VAT) and the Raymic remote control (second station) retails at £89 exc VAT (£104.58 inc VAT). Please check your local Raymarine dealer for the latest price.
