Marblehead Trafalgar Cup at Woking Model Yacht Club

by Brian Coatsworth 15 Jun 2007 16:04 BST 10 June 2007

Competitors from four clubs met for the Marblehead District Championships and Trafalgar Cup at Woking Model Yacht Club’s pleasant sailing facilities in Goldsworth Park. Warm sun and light winds existed throughout the day but the Marblehead’s tall rig and efficient hull shape enabled the competitors to enjoy interesting and competitive sailing throughout.

A series of 16 races were run. Martin Houlton won the first race before being overtaken by two consecutive wins from Paul Midgley.

A fine series of consistent racing subsequently enabled Roger Stollery, sailing a boat he designed and built himself, to record a series of wins and establish a lead at the head of the fleet. Wins late in the day for Martin Houlton and Roger Pearce (Woking MYC) were not sufficient to change the overall result.

Overall Results:

1st Roger Stollery (Guildford MYC)
2nd Martin Houlton (Solent RCMYC)
3rd Paul Midgley (Woking/Guildford MYC)
