Laser 2000 reaches milestone - 2000 boats built & sold

The Laser 2000 class is celebrating reaching sail number 22000 – 2000 boats built and sold in nine years, an impressive statistic and proof that the dinghy very successfully meets its target of being both a fine racing machine and a perfect boat for family sailing. And with a record 50 boats expected at next week’s (July 28 – August 3) National Championship at Abersoch, sponsored by Laser Direct, 2007 is proving to be a fantastic year for the class.
Proud owner of 22000 is Chris Coleman, who is sailing it at Warsash SC with his three young children, twin sons Thomas and Gregory, seven, and daughter Francesca, just nine. He was tempted to go for the very special number when Laser offered a too-good-too-miss part-exchange price.
“I convinced myself that this was a good deal, but knew that I would have to convince my non-sailing wife Gwen that it would be a great idea to spend our 2007 holiday money on another boat,” said Chris. A cup of tea helped, and the brand new boat was on the water at Warsash within four days. “I am still smiling, the children are delighted and Gwen will have to put up with yet another summer holiday under canvas...”
Chris added: “There are now six L2ks at the club and three of us dads have them to sail/race with our children. 22000 has stirred up interest among other parents, so hopefully the numbers will increase in the future.”
