Mudeford Week at Mudeford Sailing Club - Day 6

A completely lost day, as the promised F3-4 died away at midday and didn’t return until the tide went out. We did get the series race going, and Junior leader Jim Sowden (Mudeford, Radial) was in the lead after a very tricky beat and a long broad reach, until the Megabyte of Steve Waite and a couple of Lasers got past. The wind just fell away to nothing and after a decent interval I had to call it a day. If I had a pound coin for every sailor who came up to me and said “…and I was just having my best ever race when you stopped us,” I’d be a rich man.
Alternative fun was easy to find, with the tiny “Starfish” dinghies provided by Peter Reid of Reid Marine being launched off the sloping end of the pontoon in a game the kids called “roller-coaster.” Quite a few adults had a go, but none seemed to enjoy it quite as much as the youngsters.
It’s the final day tomorrow, with the postponed Ladies race, the last of the Series races and the final Pursuit race still to sail. And the results to finish before prize-giving!
