West Riding Sailing Club Swordfish Open

The 27th May saw an excellent turnout of 11 boats for the Swordfish Open
held as part of the WRSC regatta at Wintersett. Conditions over the three
days varied from hail driven gusts to light fickle moments of frustration
but the overall result was three superb days of very competitive sailing.
John & Jonathan Gledhill (boat 133) threw down the gauntlet with two
straight wins on the first day setting the pace for the weekend. 133
eventually taking overall honours with an impressive six wins and one second
place from the seven races.
Remaining places were battled out to the windward mark on the final race.
But the best spectator action came from race five when the duelling helms of
Phil Thompson, Billy Gardner and Mike Wallace fought fearlessly throughout
the final beats for mid fleet positions behind Ted Farrance and Alan
Padgett.
