On July 18th Lilliput S.C. held a Masters Open for 420 sailing (combined crew above 50 yrs). There aren`t too many “oldies” sailing 420s so it promised to be a bit of fun, but deadly serious.
It started with sunshine and light winds and the first race was easily won by David Goodliffe and Barbara Reeves. Race two and the wind came up with crews on the wire. Geoff Westlake and Rachel Samson were looking good until unfortunately they had to retire with equipment failure. Race three saw Graham Wood and Deborah Chirnside, flatwiring in 20 knots of wind at times, take an early lead before being overtaken by Goodliffe and Reeves. An excellent day`s sailing in testing conditions with some shifty winds.
In September this friendly little club in Poole harbour holds its annual Regatta. On the Saturday there is a G.P. Open which is usually well attended, and handicap racing over two days. Visitors are very welcome.
Overall Results:
1st David Goodliffe & Barbara Reeves
2nd Graham Wood & Deborah Chirnside
3rd Geoff Westlake & Rachel Samson
