The International OK Dinghy goes from strength to strength following an incredibly successful RYA Dinghy Show. A good position helps, but what really attracted people to the stand were the two Idol Composite boats on display. The young and talented owner of Idol Composites, Alex Scoles, is building truly high quality racing boats that are attracting the attention of the dinghy world.
His latest boat to come out of the workshop was centre stage. Having all the benefits of a stiff GRP boat, Alex has incorporated laminates of mahogany into the deck to produce a seriously stunning boat. Having a quality builder in the UK is really starting to make a difference to the OK Class. Along with the fact that they are a great boat to sail, this thoroughbred singlehander is starting to attract more and more sailors from other classes.
The OK Association were also promoting this years Youth & Junior Championships on October 18th at South Staffs SC. Anyone aged 21 or under on the day can enter and over the two days of the Dinghy Show an encouraging 31 young sailors signed up. You don’t have to be an OK sailor to enter, as the Association will find you a boat for the day. There will be plenty of experienced OK sailors on hand to offer support and advice to ensure you get the most out of the day and potentially win! Everyone entering will qualify for a training day run by OK World Champions Nick Craig & Jim Hunt.
