Berkeley Marine Cadet Europeans at Weymouth - Day 1

Three races were scheduled for today with lunch taken afloat. Racing was over the trapezoid course with two starts, two groups per start and rotating after each race.
Race 1:
Sailed into a Westerly Force 3 with one sausage. The first start fleet were away after a recall for a huge wind shift seconds after the first start left middle paid with GBR8997 ‘Executrix’ David/Katrina Brewer first to the windward mark and reach over to the other side. Second was ESP8725 Carlos Villa Reus/Sebastian Feliv de Cabrera, GBR8420 ‘Tantrum’ Jodie/Stevie Green, HUN9327 Farkas Fekete/Lo’ra’nt Pe’ch, GBR8519 ‘Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster’ Jenny Lennon/Alistair Laycock and GBR9034 ‘Forty Two’ Stephen Videlo/James Jopling. By the leeward mark GBR8519 was in second place. At the final windward GBR8997 led GBR8519, GBR9034, GBR8420 and GBR9151 Tornado’ Domonic/Claudia Wood-Hill. At the line GBR8997 took the gun from GBR8519, GBR9034 and GBR8420.
Second start saw GBR9027 ‘Whatever’ Alex Shanahan/Katie Barr round just ahead of GBR8561 ‘Bad Influence’ Tom Makey/Jonathon Kimber. Third was CZE9470 ‘Dzunka’ Petr Fiala/Hynek Barkman closely followed by HUN9450 ‘Yellow Submarine’ Tama’s Szamo’dy/Nagy Ga’bor, and GBR8539 ‘Genesis’ Ben Lyon/Jenny Sudel. At the next windward the first two had changed places. CZE9470 was still third with HUN9450 fourth. GBR 8855 ‘Flirting with Danger’ Jonathon Moss/Sophie Dingwall had worked through to be fifth. GBR8561 took the gun from HUN9450, CZE9470 and GBR8855.
Race 2:
With the wind still Westerly and now a good force three the races were sailed on the same course. The first start saw GBR8538 ‘Crème de la Crème’ James Jaffa/Myelie Binmore have a terrific Port end flyer and jump the fleet. They sailed across the fleet towards the right hand side. Middle left paid and first at the mark was GBR8420 Jodie Green followed by GBR7335 ‘Hypnosis’ Peter Lawrence/Christopher Tierman, HUN9450 Tama’s Szamo’dy, ESP9112 Hugo Fernandez/Anxo Rios, GBR 9027 Alex Shanahan and then GBR8538. By the next windward mark GBR8420 led by 54seconds from HUN9450, ESP9112 and GBR9027. That is how they crossed the line.
The second start saw a general recall before a black flag saw the fleet were away. With the middle of the course paying GBR8430 ‘The Business’ Chris Proffitt/Alex Coulton reached the windward first, just ahead of GBR8561 Tom Makey. Third was GBR8415 ‘Challanger’ William Rusden/Matthew Davanzo followed by GBR9155’Will Power’ Will Branton/Maddie Harris and POL9462 Filip Piecha/Mareusz Koziwski. By the next windward mark the first four boats had broken clear of the pack. GBR8415 led GBR8561,GBR8430 and GBR8515 ‘Harum Scarum’ James Rusden/Sam Muskett. These four extended their lead round the outside trapezoid with GBR8561 taking their second bullet from GBR8415, GBR8430 and GBR8515.
Race 3:
With the wind shifting to North West the course was re-laid and this time the races were over the trapezoid with two sausages. This was to be the Rusden family’s race with GBR 8515 James Rusden leading start 1 from start to finish and GBR8415 William Rusden leading the second start from start to finish.
Race one GBR8420 Jodie Green was second at the first windward, GBR8435 ‘Blue Moon’ Kate Allam/Amy Yeoman third followed by ESP8725 Carlos Villa Reus/Sebastian Feliv de Cabrera, GBR8561 Tom Makey, and NED8437 ‘Dutch Devil’ Sven Oomens/Dafne Wijnbergh. By the second windward GBR8515 and GBR8420 were 50 seconds clear of the rest. NED9453 was fourth just ahead of GBR8561. At the final windward this lead was still 50 seconds from the BEL9453 ‘Scheetje’ Yannick Lefefvre/Morgan Good and NED8437. At the Line GBR8420 finished second with BEL9453 third ahead of GBR8561.
In the second start GBR8855 Jonathon Moss rounded the first mark second just ahead of HUN9450 Tama’s Szamo’dy, NED8334 ‘Tomahawk’ Remy Oomens/Lotte Wijnbergh, HUN9326 Bala’zs Berliniski/Andra’s Sandor and GBR9027 Alex Shanahan. At the next windward GBR8415 was 55seconds clear of GBR8855. HUN9450 was third and GBR9027 fourth. By the line GBR8855 was second and GBR9034 Stephen Videlo third just ahead of HUN9450.
