New Speed Sails Albacore has her first outing

The 2008 Albacore Nationals saw the first outing for the new Speed Sails Albacore with Mary and Jeremy Rook finishing 4th overall and recording a race win. The new hull is the same shape as the existing Speed Sails boats but has a new internal layout and is now made using epoxy resins as opposed to polyester resins.
Work on the moulds was undertaken by ex-National Champions Chris Turner & Simon Maguire at Ovington Boats and has led to improvements in both the quality of the hull and the interior layout. The epoxy foam sandwich offers weight distribution advantages along with increased hull strength & stiffness. Layout improvements include side tanks running to the transom, full height bow tank, shroud bulkheads running to deck level and improved control line positioning on the thwart amongst others.
