16-22 August 2008
This year’s Cadet National & Open Championships are being held at Torquay from 16th to 22nd August. One hundred Cadets have entered the event, which is being hosted by Royal Torbay Yacht Club. Torquay was a regular venue for the Cadet Class until the Championships moved to Weymouth some five years ago and a warm welcome has been extended to all competitors.
The entries include four crews which represented GB at this month’s World Championship, together with a large number who raced in the Promotional Regatta. Absent are Joanna Freeman, who helmed GBR 9575 into second place in the Worlds, Alex Horlock, who finished in fifth place in GBR 9382 and Tom Kinver, who was placed eighth in GBR 8511. Joanna and Tom are competing in the 420 Nationals at Pwllheli and Alex will be at the 29er Nationals at Weymouth.
Today’s Practice Race was cancelled due to Southerly winds gusting up to 30mph across Torbay. The wind is forecast to swing around to the South-West by tomorrow morning with speeds of 10-15 mph, gusting into the low twenties.
