The Scottish Topper Championships took place on 30th and 31st August 2008 at Tarbert Loch Fyne Yacht Club. The event attracted a fleet of 42 sailors split 2:1 between the main Fleet and the Development Fleet. Conditions were good with light winds on both days which encouraged the less experienced sailors who may have thought of Loch Fyne as a daunting prospect.
Competition in both fleets was keen and over the six race weekend places changed frequently. In the end the victor was Andrew McGowan, Helensburgh Sailing Club/Clyde Cruising Club with a points total after discard of 11. Second was Jamie Noyes, St Mary's Loch (12 pts), third was Jack Evans, Chanonry (26pts) and fourth was home club sailor Angus Gray-Stephens (28pts).
In the Development Fleet newcomer Lewis Marr, Largs SC had a convincing win with three firsts and 2 thirds after discards and was chased all the way by Rosemary Jennings-Mann, Helensburgh SC.
The event had the biggest Scottish Toppers turnout of the year proving Tarbert, Loch Fyne's attraction for top class racing.
