Rooster Streakers were 1st (and 1st over 45), 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 1st Lady (and Best Improved) and first over 55 at the 2008 Streaker National Championships.
Rooster Sails were also at the front of the fleet; the Rooster Flat Pentex design was 1st, 2nd and 3rd while the Rooster Flat Dacron design was 5th and first over 55.
Rooster Sailing got involved with the Streaker Class in 2004 when Ian Jones sailed the first Epoxy Streaker out of a mould, built by Dave Naylor, number 1571 (the red boat) which he promptly won the Nationals in 2004, 2005 and the inland nationals in 2007. This resulted in a number of successful FRP Streakers being built out of this mould; Steve sailed one in the 2005 National Championships, coming 3rd to Ian Jones (1st) with 'the red boat' and Tom Gillard (2nd) with his Granddad's home built wood boat.
Many of these FRP Rooster Streakers were still sailing successfully during the nationals - such as 1592 sailed by Ruth Baker (first lady and best improved). These boats were dark blue in colour with light grey decks.
Rooster Sailing were not the only Streaker Boat Builder and so in an effort to further improve the boat's competitiveness, the moulds were moved to Rondar as they could offer a boat in epoxy.
Steve Cockerill won the Streaker Nationals for the first time in 2006 when he sailed the first of Rondar's Epoxy Rooster Streakers - boat number 1607. Eight boats were built to this specification. There was still no change to the underwater shape as this had proved very competitive. It was only a change in the production specification by using epoxy which we felt made a significant difference to the boats performance, as this boat is very light in construction which makes it both fun and easy to sail, epoxy would also make it stiff and competitive.
This first Epoxy Streaker, 1607 proved competitive in 2007 as well. Steve borrowed it from its owner to take the title for a second time in Filey, East Yorkshire.
At that point Rooster were faced with a dilemma. The advice from the builder was that the deck mould was not very easy to build from and there were some quality issues with the mould. Rooster decided to invest in improving the deck mould and proposed a change to the aesthetics of the boat. After a lot of political manoeuvring, Rooster's new deck mould was approved by the class*. Since then Rooster Sailing have supplied 17 new boats since March, using the expert production techniques of The Boatyard at Beer, namely Ian Teasdale. With three in the order book, it certainly looks like a success story. Streaker sailors seem to have a smile on their face :)
*All GRP, FRP or EPOXY Streakers must be produced from a Class Approved Mould.
